During the West Point City Council work session last week, Urban Development Director Dennis Dutton spoke to the city council about a possible annexation and rezoning of a property on Warner Road.

The property at 523 Warner Road in unincorporated Troup County is owned by Chris Welton of Safe Truck Parking Solutions, LLC. He is requesting the annexation and rezoning of the property from a general commercial area to a mixed-use district. The parcels cover approximately 25.59 acres.

The city’s planning committee plans to meet on Dec. 2 to make recommendations for the annexation and rezoning application. The city council will discuss this and then submit a motion as to whether the annexation should then be approved.

Under Welton’s plan, the property would be annexed to the city of West Point for water, sewer, power and public safety purposes “to develop a truck park and buildings for commercial and industrial uses,” according to meeting minutes.

The MPB will vote on an ordinance on rezoning and annexation.

During the work session, City Council members asked whether Walton planned to put a restaurant on the property. He said it was still under review but no decision had been made yet.

Walton said he is working with a national real estate firm to conduct a study to determine what services and commercial developments are most in demand in the area.
