Police have released the name of the missing man as well as an updated timeline and video of the events

West Vancouver police have renewed their appeal for information to help find a missing kayaker.

West Vancouver police have now released the name of the missing man, Dzmitry (Dima) Aliaksandrau, and additional details about his disappearance after an initial complaint was filed on November 20.

On Nov. 19, Aliaksandrau – a 36-year-old man from Maple Ridge – left Bachelor Bay near Whytecliff Park in a white collapsible kayak around 12:08 p.m., police said in a statement. On that day, a “bomb cyclone” brought strong winds to the region.

Cellphone video taken by a nearby witness shows him traveling south near Bird Islet around 12:45 p.m

In the background of the video, a BC Ferries vessel can be seen that was scheduled to leave Departure Bay in Nanaimo at 10:40 a.m. and arrived in Horseshoe Bay around 12:45 p.m., police said.

Aliaksandrau is 1.80 meters tall, weighs 77 kilograms and has dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black rain jacket, black sweatpants and black flip-flops.

The photo provided by police shows him in a kayak shortly before leaving, police said.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact West Vancouver police at 604-925-7300.
