What will be the coldest night this week?

Alabama woke up to cool temperatures Monday morning, but it could be just as cold in some places tonight. Then comes Tuesday evening, which could be a degree or two cooler.

The National Weather Service expects more freezing temperatures across the state tonight into Tuesday morning. Another very cold night is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, which could be the coldest of the week.

Monday had some very cold temperatures, with Gadsden being one of the coldest at 23 degrees. Here are the lowest temperatures across the state from midnight to 6 a.m. Monday:

* Anniston: 25 degrees

* Auburn: 33 degrees

* Birmingham: 30 degrees

* Decatur: 26 degrees

* Dothan: 35 degrees

* Periwinkle: 31 degrees

* Gadsden: 23 degrees

* Greenville: 30 degrees

* Haleyville: 25 degrees

* Huntsville: 28 degrees

* Mobile: 35 degrees

* Montgomery: 29 degrees

* Muscle swarms: 29 degrees

* Ozark: 32 degrees

* Prattville: 29 degrees

* Sylacauga: 29 degrees

* Talladega: 26 degrees

* Troy: 28 degrees

* Tuscaloosa: 28 degrees

Today will be cool in the northern half of the state, but warmer in southern Alabama. The weather service is predicting highs for northern Alabama today will only reach the 40s. High temperatures in central Alabama will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s. It will be slightly warmer in southern Alabama, with temperatures expected to top 60 degrees in the Mobile area and along the coast.

Then the freezer door will open again this evening. Lows will fall below 20 degrees in northern Alabama, according to weather service forecasts. In central Alabama the temperature will be in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees, and in south Alabama the temperature will be in the low to mid 30s. Temperatures are expected to ease somewhat after Wednesday morning and daytime highs on Wednesday will be slightly “warmer” than the first part of the week. Here are the forecast highs for Wednesday:

By the end of the work week, temperatures are expected to be warmer in the south and still cool in the north, when another shot of cool air is expected.

The six- to 10-day temperature outlook shows that slightly below average temperatures are favored in all regions except Southwest Alabama through December 11th. Near-average temperatures are expected in southwest Alabama:
