Where Kalen DeBoer’s first Alabama football signing class is ranked nationally

Alabama football is off to a good start recruiting players under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer and general manager Courtney Morgan.

The Crimson Tide owns the second-largest contract class in the country at the end of the first day of the early signing period, according to the 247Sports Composite and On3.

Texas is the only team ahead of Alabama on both sides.

For the 247Sports Composite, Georgia is No. 3, Oregon is No. 4 and Ohio State is No. 5. For On3, the Ducks are No. 3, Georgia is No. 4 and Ohio State is No. 5.

DeBoer praised the collaboration of Morgan, who followed him from Washington, with director of player personnel Bob Welton, a holdover from Nick Saban’s staff, and the entire staff.

“Courtney Morgan is doing an outstanding job as general manager,” DeBoer said. “Bob Welton and him have done a really great job of working together and adding something to my vision and our vision from what we had before. Build on that. And just the fact that the employees are on the same page and clicking, I don’t think we would have had this course without the cohesion that exists among all the people that I mentioned.”

On Wednesday, Alabama managed to sign 21 players, including a handful of five-star prospects like quarterback Keelon Russell, cornerback Dijon Lee and offensive lineman Michael Carroll.

The rankings aren’t final yet, but it’s clear that Alabama will have a top class. Elite recruiting didn’t work, even without Saban running the program.
