Where Stockton refuels when money is tight on the holidays

As the holiday season and economic inflation take a financial toll on some, a Stockton gas station owner is spreading joy by offering discounted gas prices to the community.

Ernie Giannecchini, the owner of Ernie’s General Store, continued his tradition this year by offering his customers a discount on gas. Tuesday’s price was $3.49 a gallon for regular gasoline.

His gas station and deli, open for 45 years and located just three miles from his birthplace, is located at 4407 E. Waterloo Road.

While other gas stations in the area offered gas starting at $4.49 a gallon, Giannecchini’s dollar difference allowed his customers to save money and even buy a sandwich with the leftover money.

As Melissa Vences waited for her sandwich to be made at the deli, she said she was able to purchase her food because of the cheaper prices.

“It’s easy on the wallet. Period,” Vences said. “Whatever I don’t spend at Chevron, I can spend on a sandwich here.”

According to Vences, her Volkswagen would normally fill up for about $70, but at Ernie’s she was able to get a full tank of gas for about $60.

Outside the store, Gilbert Sierra stood next to his GMC Yukon, waiting for the gas to be ready.

He said he didn’t live in the area but decided to fill up at Ernie’s because of the low prices.

“It helps a lot, especially during the season,” Sierra said.

Sierra said he could get a little more than half a tank of gas for about $50 to $60.

A loyal customer who frequents Ernie’s was able to fill her BMW with the highest grade of gasoline for just $76. She said her tank was empty when she arrived at the gas station.
