At the moment no. This is announced as the series finale. But the “Yellowstone” series is wildly popular (think of what “Game of Thrones” was to HBO) and has already spawned two prequel spinoffs, including a third, currently titled “1944,” and a fourth , originally titled “2024” later renamed “The Madison,” is also planned.

Additionally, reports circulated in August that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser were in talks to star in a sixth season, although no official confirmation was announced.

Yellowstone Season 5 Cast

Kevin Costner, who led the series as John Dutton III, is not returning to complete the story with the rest of the cast. However, the rest of the core cast returns including:

  • Kelly Reilly as Beth
  • Luke Grimes as Kayce
  • Wes Bentley as Jamie
  • Cole Hauser as Rip
  • Kelsey Asbille as Monica
  • Brecken Merrill as Tate
  • Finn Little as Carter
  • Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater

Expected new additions include Orli Gottesman as Halie, Kathryn Kelly, who plays Jimmy’s fiancée Emily, and Josh Lucas, returning for the first time since Season 3 as young John Dutton.

Why did Kevin Costner leave Yellowstone?

Costner attributes his departure from the series to production delays that conflicted with the rest of his schedule. It’s been more than a year since Part 1 of Season 5 ended in January 2023. Costner had committed to film “Horizon: An American Saga,” but tried to reach an agreement with Paramount and showrunner Taylor Sheridan to at least film a death scene for John Dutton. You didn’t ask him about it. In June 2024, he officially announced his departure in a spontaneous Instagram video.

“Just with all the questions that were asked, the more I thought about it…I just wanted to say this is a starting point,” Costner said in the video. “Whatever I was hoping for might not be in sight. I don’t want to keep saying, ‘Yeah, I hope I can do it.’ It’s gotten to the point where I don’t think it’s realistic anymore.”

However, Costner’s character will continue to be the focus of the final six episodes of Yellowstone’s fifth season. Christina Voros, who directed four of the final six episodes, recently told The Hollywood Reporter, “His presence is crucial,” adding, “That’s him.” The patriarch and his presence are an integral part of the story. “

In episode 9, Dutton’s absence from the series was quickly explained. Beth arrives at the governor’s mansion to see police cars and a tearful Clara. Kayce sees blood splatters on the walls and a gun on the floor. Ultimately, it turns out that it was not Jamie, as Beth thinks, or suicide, as the official story goes, but a hitman hired by Sarah to portray the murder as a suicide.

What is Yellowstone about?

According to the official series synopsis, “Oscar and Emmy winner Kevin Costner is the main ensemble attraction of this drama series, playing the patriarch of a powerful, complicated ranching family.” John Dutton, a sixth-generation settler and devoted father, controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. He operates in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and timber companies and land grabs bring developers billions. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-won respect, Dutton’s estate is in constant conflict with those it borders – a growing city, an Indian reservation and America’s first national park.”

Where is “Yellowstone” filmed?

Montana, a key part of the show, is filmed on location, with the scenes from the governor’s office being filmed in Helena and the scenes from Broken Rock Reservation being filmed on the Crow Reservation.

The “Yellowstone” Dutton Ranch is the real Chief Joseph Ranch, a 2,500-acre cattle ranch in Darby, Montana, owned by Shane and Angela Libel since 2012.
