Who is Ledisi? Black national anthem singer at Super Bowl 59

The singer/songwriter Ledisi, which was awarded the Grammy, will perform the Black National anthem in the Super Bowl 2025.

For the fifth year in a row, the Super Bowl Pregame show will be a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, the song, which is widely known as a Black National Hymn.

Tradition began in 2021 with a pre -drawn video by Alicia Keys who performed the hymn. Gospel Duo Mary Mary played the song in Los Angeles a year later, and Sheryl Lee Ralph was in Glendale, Arizona to sing the anthem in front of Super Bowl 57.

Last year Andra Day sang in Las Vegas in front of Super Bowl 58 “Lift every voice and sing”.

This year Ledisi will carry out the black national anthem in a PREGAME show that also includes Jon Batiste, which the American national anthem sing. Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle will also perform “America the Beautiful” before the game.

Who is Ledisi?

Ledisi is a singer/songwriter who was awarded the Grammy, who is known for her incredible voice and merger of music genres such as R&B, Soul, Jazz and Funk.

She was born in New Orleans and lived there for 13 years. According to an interview with NPR from 2011, she appeared with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra when she was eight years old.

Ledisi finally moved to Oakland, California and studied opera and piano at the University of California in Berkeley in front of the high school.

This year’s singer Black National Anthem shows Nina Simona as one of her greatest inspiration as a singer. In 2021, Ledisi published a tributalbum called “Ledisi Sings Nina”, which she will later perform in New Orleans this year to close her upcoming tour.

Ledisi was also in six theater productions (including two on Broadway), two TV episodes, nine films and is played in “Veronas Romeo & Julia”, which will be published at some point this month.

Ledisi tours three months this year. According to your website, your tour begins with your PREGAME performance of the Black National Hymn in the Super Bowl.

The week after, she appears in Grand Prairie and Sugar Land, Texas. A week after her stops in Texas, Ledisi will play successive days on the Blues Jam 2025 in New York on February 21 and 22.

She will then take a two-month break before going to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas City of Lights Jazz and R&B festival on April 26. Ledisi’s tour will close where it started when she appeared on New Orleans Jazz on May 3.
