Lark, whose work comprises the “Kingmakers” and “Underworld” series, has publicly published an apology on her Instagram page, in which she said: “My intention was to create and demonstrate a faulty main character, but instead I wrote dialogue, which has read as an attack on a community that is very important to me.”

She said during the processing process, she proposed her publisher to remove these lines and “made the wrong decision to keep them”.
