Who will compete in the golf game for PGA Tour, LIV Golf?

“The Match” has been a staple at golf events since it began broadcasting in 2018. It featured prominent athletes, media personalities and of course numerous elite golfers. However, the 2024 edition of the made-for-television tournament will be the first of its kind and feature four golfers from different brands.

Bryson DeChambeau, the 2024 US Open champion, will team up with former rival Brooks Koepka, a five-time major winner, to represent LIV Golf. On the other hand, 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler will compete with four-time major champion Rory McIlroy, who represents the PGA Tour.

Who will take part in the “Showdown”?

The showdown features four of golf’s top players this Tuesday, with two LIV Golf members – Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka – taking on two PGA Tour members – Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler, who won the 2022 and 2024 Masters Tournament, is the world’s best golfer and was just named PGA Tour Player of the Year in an overwhelming vote. McIlroy, currently ranked No. 3, won the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, the US Open in 2011 and the British Open in 2014.

DeChambeau won the US Open earlier this year after winning it for the first time in 2020. Koepka won the PGA Championship three times (2018, 2019 and 2023) and the US Open twice (2017 and 2018). But it could be a big hill to climb for DeChambeau and Koepka to have a chance. The pair are currently ranked 10th and 86th respectively.

The feud between Koepka and DeChambeau

Anyone familiar with golf in recent years is familiar with the feud between “The Showdown” teammates Koepka and DeChambeau a few years ago. Emotions between the two began to boil after Koepka criticized DeChambeau’s play at the 2019 Dubai Desert Classic.

The pair continued to give each other subtle digs throughout the 2020 season, with the most viral moment coming when Koepka appeared visibly upset with DeChambeau after he went through DeChambeau’s interview and said something the cameras couldn’t catch but Koepka clearly did heard. Their feud reached its peak in 2021 after DeChambeau was bombarded with calls of “Brooksie” throughout the PGA Tour season. Things got so bad that the PGA Tour itself had to intervene, threatening to expel fans who mocked DeChambeau.

Their differences have reportedly since been resolved, and the couple’s decision to both sign with LIV Golf has certainly helped them look past their grievances.
