Who will sing the national anthem for the NFC championship game?

It’s an NFC East showdown in Philly on Sunday afternoon as rookie sensation Jayden Daniels leads the Washington Commanders to Lincoln Financial Field to face Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles with a spot in the Super Bowl at stake.

Daniels was one of the best stories of this NFL season. After being selected No. 2 overall in last spring’s draft, he immediately broke through, helping the underdog Commanders to two straight wins in his playoff debut. However, this Eagles team will be his toughest test yet as Vic Fangio’s defense may be the deepest and worst in the entire NFL. With Barkley running recklessly on the other side, it will require a Herculean effort; But if this season has taught us anything, it’s that we should never count Daniels out.

But beyond the game itself, there’s one question on everyone’s mind: Who will sing the national anthem? This offseason has already given us some memorable displays of the Star-Spangled Banner, and we could be treated to yet more fireworks on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s performance of the national anthem will be performed by Broadway star Mary Kate “MK” Morrissey, who currently plays the role of Elphaba Evil. And while she’s already familiar with the color green, that’s not the only reason the Eagles chose her for the honor before the biggest game of their season: According to the Philadelphia Enquirer, Morrissey also grew up in nearby Downington and was passionate about it Birds. When her favorite team called her up, it was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.

“I will be missing both shows on Sunday because I will be singing the national anthem at the Birds championship game, baby,” Morrissey posted on her Instagram Story on Friday while wearing an Eagles hat. “Go birds.”

We know what you’re thinking and unfortunately the answer is no: Morrissey won’t score The Note from “Defying Gravity” during their rendition of the anthem on Sunday, which prefers something a little more traditional. However, if Philly emerges victorious after their performance, the entire city will change… forever. (Excuse me.)
