Wildcats use 30 points off turnovers to route Sacramento State

MIAMI – The ACU women’s basketball team shined by performing and converting opponents’ mistakes into easy shots in a 75-53 win over Sacramento State on Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats outscored the Hornets 28-10 in the key game, turning 23 Sacramento State turnovers into 30 points.

The game was part of the FIU Thanksgiving Classic. ACU will face the host Panthers for the tournament championship.

KEY POINTS

  • ACU had a 50% shooting percentage in the game, while Sacramento State only had a 33% shooting percentage. The Hornets only made 11 field goals after the first quarter.
  • Payton Hull led ACU with 25 points on 3 of 4 shooting from behind the arc.
  • Bella Earle This was followed by 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.
  • The Wildcats led by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter as several reserve players logged valuable minutes.
  • Freshman Aimee Flippin played a career-best 18 minutes and had four points and two rebounds.
  • Meredith Mayes had her returning from a lower body injury. Mayes started and played more than 17 minutes of playing time with two points, three rebounds and two steals.

The look forward

ACU faces FIU on Sunday at noon CT. The Wildcats defeated the Panthers at the Ocean Convocation Center in the second game of the season – a 76-73 win on Nov. 8. Bella Earle led the Wildcats with 26 points in the win.
