Will Smith and Joyner Lucas throw a tantrum in a new collaboration

In 2024, some Golden Era rap pioneers returned to their roots. LL Cool J, MC Lyte and Snoop Dogg all released new albums this year (Snoop’s is actually out tonight), more than 30 years after their release. You can also add Will Smith to this list; While he hasn’t announced a full project yet, he did debut two new songs: “Bulletproof,” which he performed at the BET Awards, and “Work Of Art.”

His latest single is called “Tantrum,” and finds him reuniting with a new muse: Joyner Lucas, with whom he previously collaborated on a remix of the Massachusetts rapper’s tribute to him, “Will.” After Joyner’s video caught Will’s attention in 2020, the former prince praised the younger protégé, which led to a meeting on Zoom and ultimately, it seems, a fruitful collaboration.

As LL’s raps continue The POWERWill’s raps here are modernized and based on the style we remember best; Since he probably won’t be able to get away with “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” in 2024 (let alone “Parents Just Don’t Understand”), it makes sense that he would want to show off his improved technical skills – especially while on the side raps someone Eminem once called one of the best rappers of all time. In the accompanying video, which you can watch above, the two rappers are represented by video game avatars performing their verses in a digitized version of what appears to be Miami – a nod to Smith’s extensive career, which perhaps should have extended to the content as well also of the song.
