Windblown’s first feature patch is almost here and includes a much-needed overhaul

Now this Gone with the windthe new roguelike from original Dead Cells developer Motion Twin, has been available for some time now, and the first feature patch of the game’s Steam Early Access phase is almost here. I really enjoyed Motion Twin’s isometric co-op take on what it does best, but a problem loomed. The current sudden death mechanic that activates when a co-op ally dies is far too brutal. However, with Windblown’s first major patch with new features, that will change.

Since release, Motion Twin has implemented mouse aiming, bug fixes and balancing, but the biggest upcoming improvement is by far the changes to Windblown Sudden Death. Right now, if you’re playing Windblown in co-op and an ally dies, you have to kill ten enemies without getting hit once – otherwise you’ll die in one shot in the roguelike game. However, if you manage to dodge and dodge, your partner will come back to life.

“We will be releasing the first feature patch for Windblown this month, which we are calling Revenge Update,” writes Motion Twin.

“It will include new weapons, skins, trinkets and major updates to some key enemies and level design overhauls, along with the long-awaited Sudden Death rework – replaced by Revenge Mode!” Stay tuned for updates on this patch soon.”

While Windblown is shaping up to be one of my new favorite roguelike games, Motion Twin still has a lot of work to do. However, that’s to be expected with an Early Access launch, so I’m not exactly worried about the game’s future.

However, players found the current sudden death mechanic to be far too intense and unforgiving, especially when facing a boss, which, as you already know, has one enemy instead of ten. For this reason, Motion Twin redesigns the system while retaining the mechanics.

Motion Twin will release the Windblown Revenge update sometime in December, with further updates to follow during Steam Early Access. Find out more here.
