On the 3rd, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced that 1.5 billion won was collected in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, based on a preliminary count of hometown love donations last year. This is three times more than the 500 million won collected last year. Based on the total, it ranks fourth among 226 basic local governments nationwide.

In particular, the amount collected for two days from the 30th to the 31st immediately after the accident was about 1.1 billion won, or 71% of the total amount collected in 2024.

From January last year to the day of the accident, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do collected about 440 million won (3,000 cases), but two days after the accident, about 1.1 billion won (11,000 cases) were collected.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security interpreted the results as an expression of the people’s desire to overcome the crisis together.

Since the accident, large Internet communities and large social media with many members have posted “Let’s help Muan by donating out of love for his hometown,” and many people have responded.

Apparently, the donors joined in consideration of the situation, which was designated as a special disaster area, while expressing their sadness over the accident and their gratitude to the area, which helps the grieving families by donating out of love for its hometown.

An official from the Hometown Love Donation System in Muan-gun said, “We thank people for their warm hearts through donating love to their hometowns, and we will do our best to be responsible and use them valuablely to overcome disasters.” and to alleviate the pain of the victims.

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the hometown love donation (provisional) reached about 89 billion won in 2024, far exceeding the total fundraising of 65 billion won in the previous year, and the number of donations was about 790,000. 50% more than last year.

Of the total 790,000 donations, the maximum donation limit of 5 million won was 1,435, down about 30% from 2,052 in 2023.

On the other hand, there were 770,000 (98.1%) donations under 100,000 won, an increase of 260,000 from 510,000 (97.0%) in 2023.
