Woman and two teenagers jailed for murder of 24-year-old in Sheffield Park

The attack occurred in March 2024

A woman and two teenagers have been jailed for the murder of a 24-year-old man in a Sheffield park earlier this year.

18-year-old Barney Griffin and 17-year-old Jack Douglas killed Sacad Ali in the early morning of March 9, 2024 in Ponderosa Park.

Rebecca Moore, 25, had lured Mr Ali from his friend’s flat in Netherthorpe to the park at 4am, where he was then ambushed and stabbed by Griffin and Douglas.

Moore was convicted of murder following the conclusion of a 16-day trial earlier this month, while Griffin and Douglas pleaded guilty to murder and possession of a bladed article in May.

At Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, Moore and Douglas were each sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Griffin was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Ben Wood, Detective Chief Inspector at South Yorkshire Police, said: “I know today’s sentencing will not bring Sacad back, but I hope it brings closure to his family, his friends, his loved ones and everyone who knew him while they try.” to rebuild their lives and recover from the grief inflicted on them.

“The two teenagers murdered Sacad in a barbaric manner, and Moore also murdered him by tricking him into a meeting and luring him to the place where he was brutally attacked. Instead of admitting her guilt, Moore let Sacad’s relatives relive the events of the day he died by having her tried in court, after which she was found guilty of murder.

“A lot of exemplary detective and police work went into this murder investigation and today’s outcome is a testament to the hard work of everyone on this tragic case.”

“Knife crime takes the lives of too many young people and it is heartbreaking that Sacad’s life was ended in this way.”

Mr Ali’s family paid tribute to him in a statement released after the verdict.

Said: “Sacad was a loving son and brother who was loved by his entire family. He was the heart of our family and was always happy and smiling.

“Everyone who knew Sacad knew how positive and happy he was. It feels like all the light has been taken from our lives.

“Our lives have been completely destroyed by what happened and we will never be able to forget it.”
