Woman gets 25 years in prison for drunk driving accident that killed newlywed bride in golf cart

A South Carolina woman accused of killing a bride on her wedding day while driving drunk in April 2023 has reportedly pleaded guilty to four criminal charges related to the incident.

The local WCBD, WCSC and WCNC reported that Jamie Lee Komoroski pleaded guilty Monday afternoon to one felony count of DUI resulting in death, two misdemeanor counts of DUI resulting in serious bodily injury and another charge of involuntary manslaughter.

According to multiple reports, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty.

PEOPLE has reached out to Komoroski’s defense attorney.

Komoroski, 26, was arrested on April 29, 2023, a day after she crashed her car into a golf cart containing newlyweds Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson on their wedding day. A toxicology report from the South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement found that Komoroski was three times the alcohol limit at the time of the accident.

WCBD reported that Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone. Two other passengers who were in the golf cart with Miller and Hutchinson survived the accident. Prosecutors also reportedly pointed out that Komoroski refused a sobriety test and a breathalyzer test after the crash.

The outlet reported that Komoroski told the court on Monday that she is currently attending Alcoholics Anonymous, which she attended in prison after the accident.

Komoroski spent 10 months in South Carolina’s Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center after she was arrested in connection with the crash until she was released on $150,000 bail on March 1 of this year, according to PEOPLE checked inmate files.

Miller’s family received a $1.3 million settlement in June.

Miller, who was 34, died at the scene of blunt force injuries, Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal told PEOPLE last year. Meanwhile, Hutchinson has had “reconstructive surgery, numerous broken bones and a brain injury,” according to his mother’s GoFundMe page.

“I was presented with Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam put it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” Hutchinson’s mother, Annette, wrote in the fundraising post at the time. “Aric has lost the love of his life.”

According to ABC News, Miller’s mother, Lisa Miller, spoke out against Komoroski in court last August. “She didn’t just kill my child,” the bride’s mother said. “She killed us all.”

District Judge Michael Nettles said: “This is certainly a very tragic situation for everyone involved,” the outlet reported at the time.

Miller’s mother spoke in court again on Monday, shortly after Komoroski entered her guilty plea, according to WCBD, which reported that the mother was “visibly and audibly emotional” as she addressed the judge.

“She won’t come back to life for ten or twenty-five years,” said the bride’s mother. “It’s a lifetime.”
