Women’s Australian Open Day 6 predictions including Coco Gauff vs Leylah Fernandez

A battle between seeded players Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez marks the highlight of the third round of the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne. Paula Badosa vs Marta Kostyuk is also on the match card as we have predictions for every match on day 6.

Coco Gauff vs Leylah Fernandez

Andreas Pelekis: Leylah Fernandez will make her third-round debut at the Australian Open, but her form hasn’t been great so far in this tournament. Gauff looked more confident after a 6-3, 7-5 win in the second round against Jodie Burrage and will reach week two with a win. The pair also recently played in the United Cup this year, where Gauff won easily. Gauff in 2

Jordan Reynolds: Gauff wasn’t at his best in the first two rounds, but still won both games in straight sets. At best, Fernandez is able to push the American and fans will likely see several great rallies. Overall, Gauff has an advantage due to her greater firepower. Gauff in 2

Yesh Ginsburg: Coco Gauff seems to be in great shape right now. Fernandez has the talent to stick around, but it’s been years since we’ve seen the Canadian put it all together the way she needed it. Gauff in 2

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Clara Tauson

Andreas: This should be a tough fight with Sabalenka facing someone who is gaining form and confidence. After a few challenging seasons with injuries, Tauson appears to have found her rhythm. Sabalenka also looked vulnerable at times in her second-round match, escaping from a third set and winning 6-3, 7-5. I wouldn’t rule out a three-set match, but the defending Australian Open champions should have enough to win. Sabalenka in 3

Jordan: There will be plenty of heated arguments between two of the strongest players on the WTA Tour. Tauson is in the best shape of her career, but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s nowhere near Sabalenka’s level. Expect the defending champions to prevail confidently. Sabalenka in 2

Yesh: Aryna Sabalenka has been in confident form lately. I don’t know what it will take to defeat them, but I’m pretty sure it’s more than Tauson can muster. Sabalenka in 2

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova against Laura Siegemund

Andreas: Siegemund managed quite an upset against Qinwen Zheng in the second round, but it is often difficult to defend such a result in the next game. Pavlyuchenkova hasn’t been too convincing in her first two games, but she has an underrated game that I think will overwhelm the German in two close sets. Pavlyuchenkova in the 2nd

Jordan: This will likely be a battle between offense and defense. In her surprising win against Qinwen Zheng, Siegemund showed how difficult it can be to deal with her diversity. I think the German can do the same against the more inconsistent Pavlyuchenkova. Siegemund in the 3rd

Yesh: This should be a fun game. Both women play strong tennis with good all-court games. I don’t know how much longer Pavlyuchenkova can compete at higher levels, but she can probably get more out of it than the German when needed. Pavlyuchenkova in 3

Paula Badosa vs. Marta Kostyuk

Andreas: Kostyuk, a defending quarterfinalist from last year’s Australian Open, struggled in her first-round match but held on for a 6-3 6-0 win over Jule Niemeier on Wednesday. Badosa, on the other hand, looked consistent and confident in her opening two games. The pair played four times and twice at the Australian Open, where Badosa claimed victory. Kostyuk’s only victory was his resignation. Look for the Spaniard to surpass Kostyuk and reach the second week. Badosa in the 2nd

Jordan: This could be the women’s best third-round match. These two seem to be a perfect match, with Badosa being slightly stronger but Kostyuk being marginally more athletic. It’s hard to pick a winner, but Badosa is confident he will come out on top. Badosa in the 3rd

Yesh: Is Paula Badosa out of her slump and ready to be a top-5 player again? The answer is a solid “maybe,” which looks much stronger than Kostyuk’s potential right now. Badosa in the 2nd
