Women’s basketball competes in the San Diego Thanksgiving Classic

SAN DIEGO | The Alabama A&M women’s basketball team (3-2) will compete in the San Diego Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs face the Utah Valley Wolverines on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (PST) and the University of San Diego Toreros on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Saturday’s contest can be watched on ESPN+.

AAMU continues its eight-game road streak after defeating the UAH Chargers 71-68 on Friday night. senior Kalia Walker scored a season-high 23 points and six rebounds. Alisha Wilson added 11 points, six rebounds and four steals Kourtney Rittenberry scored 10 points and four steals of his own. Lauryn Pendleton scored 13 points and a team-high five assists.

The Wolverines had a split weekend, falling 76-68 to Loyola Marymount and defeating Bethesda (CA) 89-56. UVU was led by Kennedy Carlyle’s 21 points and 11 rebounds and Gracie Sorenson’s 14 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

The Toreros return to Jenny Craig Pavilion for the first time in three weeks and won 2-1 in their away game earlier in the season. San Diego most recently lost in overtime 71:63 against UC Santa Barbara. Kylie Horstmeyer led the Toreros with 17 points in the loss. Ava Ranson and Truitt Reilly each added 12 points, with Reilly scoring a team-high 11 points.

Friday’s action begins at 2 p.m. with USD vs. Nebraska Omaha before the AAMU vs. Utah Valley contest. Utah Valley first faces Omaha on Saturday before AAMU takes on the host team to round out the classic.

The Classic marks the first time AAMU will face both teams. The Bulldogs are 1-2 against Western Athletic Conference (WAC) schools, while Utah Valley has only faced one other SWAC school, losing a contest to Texas Southern in 2006.
