Woodbridge woman critical after being hit by drunk driver: prosecutor

EDISON, NJ – A Woodbridge woman and her 15-year-old stepdaughter were seriously injured in a car accident Wednesday evening on Rt. 1, where the driver, a young woman from Cranford, was driving under the influence, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said.

The crash occurred around 1:32 a.m. Thursday in Edison, Rt. 1 northbound at Parsonage Road.

Police say Alyssa Figueredo, 31, of Cranford, was driving under the influence: She ran a red light and crashed into a car driven by Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison.

Mejia suffered serious injuries but was in stable condition as of Thursday. However, his wife, Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, and his 15-year-old daughter were also in the car and both suffered life-threatening injuries.

The woman and the young girl were in critical condition on Thursday.

Figueredo suffered minor injuries and was taken to JFK Medical Center for treatment. She was charged with three counts of third-degree assault, driving under the influence and other traffic violations.

Edison Police Officer Chris Pitoscia and Detective Ken McGarry of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office investigated this crash.
