Work begins to improve Long Creek Nature Preserve

Palm Coast, FL— Now that the survey is complete, work has begun on an improvement project at the City of Palm Coast’s Long Creek Nature Preserve. Popular with residents and visitors alike, the waterfront promenade will feature several new additions, including expanded shell walking trails that will span most of the property’s 9 acres, several new boardwalks and harbor views along the water, and a series of pavilions with picnic tables. The final product is intended to provide a “living classroom” feel to expand the public’s opportunities for wildlife viewing and environmental/historical education.

“The Long Creek Nature Preserve is such a beautiful area, and these will not only add to the aesthetics, but also provide new areas for everything from hiking to fishing to a waterfront picnic,” said project manager and architect Eric Gebo. “We’re excited to see this project take shape and can’t wait for visitors to enjoy all the new amenities once it’s complete.”

Just last month, the city of Palm Coast unveiled a historical marker in the preserve, recognizing its natural beauty and rich history, which includes the site of Hernandez Landing, an early 19th-century commercial shopping center that played an important role in the transportation of goods such as sugar cane and sea island cotton through Long Creek. With path clearing on the site currently underway, the next steps planned are the installation of sidewalks and construction of the new boardwalks. This project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. For more information about Long Creek Nature Preserve, visit palmcoast.gov/long-creek
