The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin work in January 2025 to replace the aging westbound Tensaw River Bridge on the US-90 Causeway.

The $78.8 million project is expected to take approximately two years to complete.

The new replacement bridge is located near the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, one of the state’s most popular tourist attractions, and includes:

  • Own footpath and cycle path
  • Security upgrades
  • Durable concrete construction designed to withstand the elements and improve structural integrity

According to ALDOT, construction will take place south of the current east bridge, which will help minimize traffic impacts on the Causeway throughout the construction process.

There will be limited lane closures during non-peak hours, so disruption to daily commuters will be minimal.
