World Chess Championship: The stalemate continues as Gukesh fails to press Ding in game 9

GM Gukesh Dommaraju found himself in a promising position in the ninth game, allowing world champion Ding Liren to exit with a draw and the 2024 FIDE World Championship ending with just five games to go in a 4.5-4.5 draw. The players will now have a rest day on Friday before Ding will have white in two of the next three games when action begins again on Saturday.

The 2024 FIDE World Championship in Singapore will decide the next world champion. 18-year-old Indian challenger Gukesh Dommaraju takes on defending Chinese champion Ding Liren in a 14-game match, with the former winning by 7.5 points. The players have two hours to make 40 moves, then 30 minutes until the end of the game, from move 41 onwards 30 seconds are added for each move. The prize fund is $2,500,000, of which $200,000 is for a win and the remaining money is divided equally. In the event of a tie of 7:7, a playoff will take place, starting with four games of 15+10 rapid chess.
