Costco has a generous return policy that offers a “Risk-Free 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.” TikTok users have returned all sorts of items, including a damaged grill, a couch purchased two years ago, and even a used bidet.

Now, in a video with over 18,000 views, a woman is asking viewers for advice after her Costco apple pie fell into the back seat of the car.

TikTok user @xo.lovely.lynn asks in the text overlay of the seven-second clip, “Our apple pie for Thanksgiving tomorrow,” followed by a crying face and a broken heart emoji.

“Do you think they will give us a refund?” she asks. As No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” plays, she reveals the apple pie. It slipped off the can, cracked the crust, and spilled onto the backseat floor of her car.

The Costco shopper’s cake falls

“Are you still in the store? Yes, they will!” wrote one viewer.

“You could literally bring back an empty can and they would refund you,” remarked a second.

“I know Costco, yes,” agreed a third.

Even a quarter saw a customer do something similar. “I saw someone drop their pumpkin cheesecake in the parking lot and I felt so bad,” they said.

Can she give that back?

There is nothing stopping Costco customers from returning opened groceries. “The general rule is that to receive a refund you must return 50% of the item. “So if you bought a double pack of melons, cut one open, and found them boring, you can generally get a refund in that situation, even if one of the melons was partially eaten,” according to the Motley Fool.

While the blog post confirms that you can return food, even spoiled food, the author urges customers to use their best judgment. Taking Costco’s policy too far may not be the best idea.

Costco employees share stories about returned groceries

A Reddit thread posted on r/Costco confirmed the claims in the comments section. A user asked other workers what was the strangest reason for returns. Some stories were actually about food.

“Someone returned two pumpkins the day after Halloween because they ‘no longer needed them,'” one user recalls.

“I saw someone return milk because they didn’t have time to drink it all before the expiration date,” another shared

“Someone bought a case of beer, came home and dropped it. They cleaned it with their vacuum cleaner, which they also purchased at Costco. “They returned both the beer and the vacuum cleaner with all the glass still in it,” revealed a third.
