YO IDAHO! These GI Joe characters have Gem State backstories

GI Joe (A Real American Hero) characters were part of the childhood of many children growing up in the 1970s and 1980s. As it turns out, two of the action figure line’s popular characters were inspired by cities in the Gem State.

Yo Joe! Those of us who were children of the ’80s remember this rallying cry. I don’t know how many hours I spent between the ages of seven and ten just sort of waging wars in my bedroom with these characters, these characters that my father would let me do chores that I could save up for , but it amounted to a lot, I can tell you that.

I don’t remember having either figure in my collection, but then again I don’t remember many things from the ’80s either.

What many people don’t know is that the backstories of these characters also include actual cities in the United States. I remember one of my favorite movies was Snow Job. As I got older, I began to understand the humor in that name, or maybe I was just incredibly immature.

Did you know that the backstories of the characters Alpine (aka Albert M. Pine) and Tollbooth (aka Chuck X. Goren) began in Idaho? Accordingly gijoe.fandom.comAlpine was born Minidoka and Tollbooth comes from Boise. Pine was an Army mountain soldier and Goren was a sapper (engineer) and bridgelayer, as shown in the comics in which they first appeared.

I don’t remember having either figure in my collection, but then again I don’t remember many things from the ’80s either.

Maybe it’s because I’m a nerd or because I just watched “Rings of Power,” but the last time I delved into online real estate listings, I searched for keywords like “Hobbit” and “Tolkien.”
