You drank too much at Thanksgiving dinner. What now?

Sometimes you eat too much at Thanksgiving dinner, and sometimes you realize you’ve had too much to drink. You had a lovely time and your generous aunt kept refilling your glass. Then you realize, “Oh wow. I shouldn’t drive.”

“If you plan to consume alcohol or other harmful substances this holiday, we ask drivers to make advance plans for a safe journey home. If your plans fall through, you can call AAA and we will get you to a safe location,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group.

Tow-to-Go service has been an annual free service in Michigan since 2017. That’s how it works.

“We will dispatch a tow truck to safely transport the potentially disabled driver and their vehicle to a safe location within 10 miles,” Woodland explained.

If you don’t make it home, the tow truck driver should take you to a safe place. Woodland said the service is free whether you’re a AAA member or not.

“So this is AAA’s effort to help make the roads safer this Thanksgiving.”

The trip is limited to one person and one vehicle. You cannot plan a trip in advance. The service may not be available in some rural areas or during inclement weather.

If you need Tow-to-Go service, call 855-2-TOW-2-GO. It’s confidential.

AAA requests that you use this as a “last resort.”
