Your Google Pixel can now tell you if it is overheating


Your phone will naturally heat up a bit as you use it and will adjust certain settings to cool itself down. However, it can be helpful to know your device’s temperature and whether it is reaching a critical point so you can take steps to prevent major problems.

Overheating can have a number of negative effects on your device, from slowing it down, weakening the signal or disabling some features, to damaging the battery or other components. In addition to common causes such as overuse and heat, excessive temperatures can indicate that something is wrong, such as a defective battery, a software error, or the presence of malware.

Previously, Google Pixel users had to rely on a third-party app to check their phone’s temperature – now you can see live measurements in the built-in Pixel troubleshooting app.

How to measure the temperature of your Google Pixel

If you have a Pixel 6 or newer, the native temperature reading is available with a Pixel troubleshooting update. Go to in the app Settings > Battery > Battery Diagnostics > Phone is very warm to check the temperature of your device. You get a color-coded live display that, according to 9to5Google, falls into one of four categories: Cold, Normal, Warm, and Sublime. The app also provides a description of the current temperature relative to “normal phone usage.”

If your device is too warm, you may also see tips to cool it down, such as: B. closing power-hungry apps or increasing airflow.
