Zelensky calls Putin’s 72-hour armistice promise in the Russia-Ukraine War “Manipulation”

The Russian armed forces started 100 attack drones in Ukraine overnight, announced the Ukrainian authorities on Tuesday, killed a child and wounded several people only a few hours after the Kremlin had explained a one-sided three-day ceasefire vulnering.

The announcement on Monday that President Vladimir V. Putin from Russia ordered the ceasefire was quickly hit by Ukrainian officials.

“There is no reason to wait until May 8th.”

Mr. Zelensky noticed that the Ukraine at the urging of the United States had already agreed to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire. Russia also did not agree to hire the strikes for civil goals, he added.

“Russia has consistently rejected everything and continued to manipulate the world and tried to deceive the United States,” said Zelensky, who accused Putin of playing in weapon negotiations for time to strengthen his hand.

If Russia really wants a ceasefire, Zelensky added: “It must be immediately, full and unconditionally-at least 30 days to ensure that it is safe and guaranteed.” He also said that “the ceasefire should not only be for a few days, just to return to kill afterwards.”

The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, grazed this proposal on Tuesday with the statement that Moscow would not agree to a longer ceasefire without getting any further details.

“Details are important if you talk about a long ceasefire: It would be difficult to agree to such a long ceasefire without tackling these problems,” Peskov told Russian news agencies.

Apparently Mr. Peskov tried to repeat Russia from Mr. Trump’s peace effort, repeated, and also confirmed the offer of Russia to have direct discussions with Ukraine.

Mr. Peskov said that Russia was ready to speak to the government of Mr. Zelensky, although it regarded him as an illegitimate president because the elections were suspended in Ukraine after war law.

“In fact, there are legal questions related to legitimacy,” said Peskov. “But in this case there is above all interest in getting started in peace calculation processes.”

His comments came when the air force of Ukraine said she shot 37 of the drones launched overnight. Nine drones were put down in the Kyiv region, said the local authorities, where falling debris caused injuries and started a fire in a hotel.

A drone attack killed a 12-year-old girl in the Dnipro region. According to the local authorities, a 6-year-old girl and two adults were also wounded.

The announcement of the Kremlin about the temporary ceasefire came shortly after President Trump had frustrated the continued bombing in Russia in Ukraine. After meeting Mr. Zelensky over the weekend, Mr. Trump said that he asked if Mr. Putin really wanted to peace.

“Maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he only takes me and has to be treated differently,” wrote Trump in a social media contribution.
